Producer : Many Rhône producers have enjoyed a renaissance in the last decade, and none more so than Delas. The company has history (back to 1836) and land (fourteen prime hectares, including La Landonne and Les Bessards). Since 1997, in the form of Jacques Grange, it has also had a winemaker capable of realising all that potential. Under his influence a more modern ‘boutique’ approach has been taken, and the wines now combine clarity of flavour with hedonistic appeal – surely the ultimate goal for a Rhône producer.

Vineyard : These Viognier grapes come from clay-limestone vineyards near the Pont du Gard, due west of Avignon, and were harvested at night to preserve freshness.

Winery : After destemming, the grapes were transferred to tanks for cool maceration. They were then pressed and the juice settled before fermentation with selected yeasts. There was no malolactic fermentation, and the wine remained in stainless steel until bottling.

Taste : Bursting with Viognier character: apricots, peaches and preserved citrus fruit. The palate is both smooth and fresh, with hints of spice.
