Rickety Bridge Winery is a progressive modern Boutique Winery. Founded in 1797, the estate is situated in the picturesque Franschhoek valley. It is here that internationally acclaimed and award winning wines are being produced for clients from all corners of the globe.

There is nothing rickety at Rickety Bridge Winery. This magnificent Franschhoek wine estate, once part of La Provence, dates back to 1694, when the Huguenot farmers arrived in the now famous Franschhoek valley.

Over the ensuing years farms were divided and on 13th May 1797 a quitrent grant was given, on the land which is now Rickety Bridge Vineyards, in favour of the widow Paulina de Villiers, and so was named Paulina’s Drift, later on also known as Zanddrift and Paulina's Dal. In 1831 Paulina's Dal was handed to her son Abraham Johannes Peppler.

The present Manor House was probably built between 1829 and 1831 and subsequently renovated in 1995. Particularly noteworthy in this 170 year-old home is the special wall cupboard with its curvilinear head and original glass, representing the best of indigenous Cape furniture.

The original rickety bridge, consisting mainly of sleeper beams, was too narrow for heavy vehicular use and was therefore changed and rebuilt in 1995. Today preserved pieces of the original bridge add a nostalgic touch to the offices.

A new modern boutique winery was built between 1996 and 2000 adjacent to the old winery and cellars. One of the original concrete wine storage tanks has been partially retained as a water feature, outside the old wine cellar and adjacent to the newly constructed wine tasting and sales centre.
